Ingredients
- 5 egg yolks
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons brandy (or cognac)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: whipped cream
- Optional: cocoa powder
Instructions
- In a bowl, beat 5 egg yolks, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 cup sugar until the mixture is thickened.
- Slowly trickle in 3 tablespoons of brandy or cognac while continuing to beat until well blended.
- Pour the mixture into a saucepan and warm over low heat, whisking continuously until thickened. Be patient and avoid boiling.
- Once thickened, remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Allow the advocaat to cool, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours or until ready to serve in small glasses or espresso cups.
- Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa powder to serve traditionally, or simply with whipped cream or plain. Enjoy!
