Ingredients
- 1 cup full-fat milk
- 1 free-range egg
- 3 tablespoons golden caster sugar
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Bourbon, rum or brandy
- 1 1/2 tablespoons whipped cream (optional)
- freshly grated nutmeg, to serve
Instructions
- Heat the milk in a non-stick saucepan until just below boiling point.
- In a large bowl, beat the eggs and sugar together until thoroughly combined.
- Pour half of the warm milk into the egg mixture, stirring well, then return everything to the pan with the remaining warm milk.
- Cook the mixture on low heat until it thickens, taking care not to let it boil.
- Add the Bourbon, rum, or brandy and stir well.
- Pour the eggnog into heat-proof glasses and top with whipped cream if desired.
- Grate a generous amount of fresh nutmeg over the top and serve immediately.
