Ingredients

  • 1 large egg, separated
  • 1 tablespoon superfine sugar
  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream, plus extra for garnish
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon, preferably Maker's Mark
  • 1/2 tablespoon dark rum, preferably Mount Gay
  • 1/2 tablespoon Cognac, preferably Remy Martin Grand Cru
  • Freshly grated nutmeg, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the egg yolk until thick and pale, then slowly beat in the sugar.
  2. Whisk in the milk and 2/3 cup of heavy cream.
  3. Mix in the bourbon, rum, and Cognac, cover, and refrigerate for up to 1 day.
  4. Just before serving, beat the egg white until stiff peaks form, then fold it into the eggnog.
  5. Whisk the remaining 1/3 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form, and fold it into the eggnog.
  6. Sprinkle with freshly grated nutmeg for a festive touch.
