Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp sweetened condensed coconut milk
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 5 whole cloves
  • Pinch of freshly ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp fresh orange zest
  • 2-3 oz Spiced or aged dark rum
  • Freshly ground nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, and orange slice for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine coconut milk, sweetened condensed coconut milk, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and orange zest.
  2. Gently simmer the mixture for 20 minutes, stirring often, without letting it boil.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool for 20 minutes, stirring to incorporate the coconut fat.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer and chill it in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  5. Add rum to a cocktail glass with ice and top with the coquito mix, or add rum to the whole batch of coquito mix.
  6. Keep refrigerated for up to 10 days.
  7. To serve, garnish with freshly grated nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, and orange slices. Enjoy!
