Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 1 sugar cube
  • Absinthe (for rinsing the glass)
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Lemon peel (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the glass with absinthe, swirling to coat the inside, then pour out any excess.
  2. In a mixing glass, combine the sugar cube, Peychaud's bitters, and Angostura bitters. Gently muddle the sugar and bitters together.
  3. Add rye whiskey and a handful of ice cubes to the mixing glass, then stir gently for about 30 seconds.
  4. Strain the mixture from the mixing glass into your old-fashioned glass.
  5. Twist a lemon peel over the drink, then drop it into the glass for garnish.
