Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey
  • 0.50 oz absinthe
  • 0.50 oz simple syrup
  • 3 dashes Peychaud's bitters
  • Garnish: lemon twist

Instructions

  1. In an Old-Fashioned glass, pour the absinthe and swirl to coat the inside, then discard the excess.
  2. Fill the glass with crushed ice and set it aside to chill.
  3. In a mixing glass with ice, combine the rye whiskey, simple syrup, and Peychaud's bitters, and stir until well-chilled.
  4. Discard the ice from the prepared glass and strain the chilled cocktail into it.
  5. Express the essential oils from a lemon peel over the drink, and then drop it in as a garnish.
